Reliable and reproducible processes in industrial handling applications
Requirements for grip chains, design and application
In many applications, grip chains perform functions that are controlled by human sensory perception.
The key factors are the gripper geometry, spring forces and motion guidance, which must be precisely matched to the material, cycle rate and process.
It is not the mechanics themselves that are decisive, but their specific design for the application.
Our campaign “Beyond the GRIP” highlights this application-driven development approach.

Three versions – different requirements
How these requirements translate into technical solutions is illustrated by three example grip chain variants.
Version E
Version E is designed for controlled and gentle gripping of sensitive materials. The combination of a defined gripper geometry and a precisely matched spring concept enables reproducible force transmission at high cycle rates. Especially when handling thin-walled or flexible films, the design of Version E ensures reliable guidance and stable processes in continuous operation.
Version F
Version F is designed for a clearly defined holding function under constant process conditions. The design focuses on high repeatability and robust performance in industrial applications. Through the precise coordination of gripper mechanics and motion guidance, Type F is particularly suitable for applications with clearly structured conveying and positioning processes.
Version H
Version H is designed for applications with additional requirements regarding safety, stability, or installation space. Its design enables compact integration into existing machine concepts and supports low-interference operation in continuous use. Depending on the configuration, Version H can provide additional protective or guiding functions when process environments impose increased demands.
Industries & Applications – different processes, different requirements
Grip chains are used in a wide range of industries. What matters most is not the product itself, but the specific process requirements resulting from factors such as material properties, cycle rates, environmental conditions, and safety requirements.
Food & Packaging
In the food industry, high cycle rates, sensitive films, and strict hygiene requirements are key factors. Materials are often thin-walled, flexible, and highly sensitive to uneven force application. Grip chains must therefore transmit defined holding forces reliably and reproducibly without damaging the packaging material. At the same time, synchronized running and low initial elongation are essential to ensure stable processes in continuous operation. Depending on the application, corrosion-resistant surfaces and food-grade lubricants may also be required.
Consumer Goods
In consumer goods production, formats, materials, and product dimensions change frequently. Processes must remain flexible without losing precision. Grip chains ensure the secure gripping and positioning of packaging or product carriers – even under changing requirements. A key factor is a design that guarantees reproducible holding forces and can be integrated into existing machine concepts. The adaptability of the gripper geometry and a defined motion guidance are therefore essential.
Industry & Technical Products
In industrial applications, robustness, continuous operation, and process stability are key priorities. Materials are often more dimensionally stable, and the requirements for holding force and guidance are higher.
Grip chains must operate precisely even under increased mechanical loads and ensure consistent positioning. High chain rigidity, controlled force transmission, and reliable synchronized running are essential for the overall performance of the machine.
Lifescience und Healthcare
In the Life Sciences & Healthcare sector, process reliability and repeatability are critical. Products are often sensitive, tolerances are tight, and regulatory requirements are strict. Grip chains must therefore grip materials in a controlled manner with precisely defined force, without risking contamination or damage. Compact designs, stable mechanics, and precise engineering are key factors for ensuring reliable processes.
