Long chain service life through efficient relubrication
Regular maintenance and lubrication are fundamental prerequisites for low wear and a long service life of the chain drive. Operating conditions (tensile forces, temperatures, contamination, aggressive media) determine the maintenance and lubrication intervals, as well as the appropriate relubrication strategy.
With regular relubrication, the chain joint operates predominantly in the mixed friction regime.
Insufficient lubrication or improperly selected relubricants result in boundary friction, leading to fretting corrosion and increased chain wear.
For effective relubrication, both the correct selection of the lubricant and the proper lubrication technique are crucial.
The Right Initial Lubricant
The iwis lubricant portfolio offers the right initial lubricant for a wide range of applications. The initial lubricant plays a crucial role in ensuring controlled run-in elongation and a long chain service life, and should therefore be selected with great care. In addition to the lubricant itself, the correct application method is decisive for the chain’s performance in continuous operation.
Various factors must be considered when selecting the appropriate initial lubricant.

Extending Chain Service Life with the Right Relubrication
If you detect insufficient lubrication on your chain, we recommend the following procedure: Clean the chain using a very low-viscosity oil or a suitable cleaning agent. This will loosen particles and flush old lubricant and other contaminants out of the chain joint.
Once the chain has been cleaned, it should be relubricated with a suitable relubricant.
