To ensure low wear and long service life, chain drives require regular maintenance and lubrication. The operating conditions (tensile forces, temperatures, contamination, aggressive media) determine maintenance and lubrication intervals and the choice of suitable lubricant.
With regular relubrication, a chain link will operate mainly in the mixed friction zone. Inadequate lubrication or the use of unsuitable relubricants will result in dry friction, which in turn causes fretting corrosion and increased chain wear.
